If you love binge watching House of Cards, “The King” will be a refreshing addition to your political and crime drama watchlist this weekend.
Starring Jo In-Sung (It’s Ok, That’s Love), Jung Woo-Sung, and Ryu Jun-Yeol (Reply 1988, Lucky Romance) in a trifecta of political ambition, betrayal, and pursuit of justice, “The King”, a period piece that starts in the 1980’s, is a reflective political drama about the ambitious prosecutor Tae-Su (played by Jo In-Sung) and his charismatic and controversial rise to power.
As Jo In-Sung’s first return to the big screen in 9 years, it relies on his narration and portrayal of Tae-Su to entice the audience into his seductive story about men’s lust for power.
According to Variety, “The King” scored $13.2 million from 1.85 million admissions between Wednesday and Sunday to top the Korean box office, setting a record for the biggest January opening in the country.”
